Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before registering for or accessing any Cowrie programme, membership, or community resource. By engaging with our services, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.
1. Definitions
In these Terms and Conditions, the following terms carry the meanings set out below:
- "Cowrie" / "we" / "us" / "our" — refers to Cowrie, a reading and education community operating from No. 16, Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, 30300 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.
- "User" / "you" / "your" — refers to any individual who accesses our website, registers for a programme, or uses any Cowrie service.
- "Services" — refers collectively to the Curated Reading Circle, Resource Library Membership, and Deep-Read Literacy Programme, as well as any associated community features and materials.
- "Content" — refers to all text, summaries, reading lists, worksheets, discussion notes, recordings, and other materials made available through our Services.
- "Agreement" — refers to these Terms and Conditions together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which together form the complete understanding between you and Cowrie.
- "Programme" — refers to a structured multi-session reading and discussion course delivered by Cowrie.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing our website or enrolling in any Service, you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years of age, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian;
- You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement under Malaysian law;
- You agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions in their entirety;
- If registering on behalf of an organisation, you have authority to bind that organisation.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our Services.
3. Description of Services
Cowrie offers the following general-education and community Services:
Curated Reading Circle — RM 460/month
A monthly reading circle exploring well-regarded books and articles on everyday money literacy, with guided discussion sessions and reflective notes provided to all participants.
Resource Library Membership — RM 1,380/year
Ongoing access to a curated library of summaries, reading lists, and worksheets, together with a community discussion space. Access is granted for the duration of the annual membership period.
Deep-Read Literacy Programme — RM 3,950/programme
A multi-month structured general-education programme working through key money-literacy ideas via guided reading and discussion, with curated materials and a certificate of attendance upon completion.
All Services are intended for general educational and personal-development purposes. Nothing delivered through Cowrie constitutes financial advice, investment advice, or any form of regulated professional service.
Service availability is subject to minimum enrolment numbers and may vary. Cowrie reserves the right to adjust session schedules or formats with reasonable notice.
4. Enrolment and Accounts
When you register for a Service, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete registration information;
- Keep your login credentials confidential and not share them with others;
- Notify us promptly of any unauthorised access to your account;
- Accept responsibility for all activity conducted under your account.
Cowrie may suspend or close an account if we have reason to believe that registration information is inaccurate or that the account has been used in breach of these Terms.
5. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use
As a user of our Services, you agree to engage respectfully and constructively. You must not:
- Share, reproduce, or distribute Cowrie Content outside the community without our written permission;
- Use the community discussion space to post misleading, abusive, discriminatory, or unlawful content;
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or replicate our reading lists, worksheets, or programme materials for commercial purposes;
- Use our Services to market or solicit products or services to other members without prior consent;
- Interfere with the technical operation of our website or platforms;
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or qualifications.
Cowrie maintains a respectful community environment. Users who breach acceptable-use expectations may be removed from programmes or memberships without refund.
6. Intellectual Property
All original Content produced by Cowrie — including curated reading lists, session notes, worksheets, discussion guides, and website copy — is the intellectual property of Cowrie and is protected under Malaysian copyright law.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use Cowrie Content solely for your own private, non-commercial reading and study. This licence does not permit you to:
- Reproduce or redistribute Content to third parties;
- Create derivative works based on Cowrie materials;
- Use Content for commercial teaching, training, or publishing purposes.
Third-party books, articles, and resources referenced in our programmes remain the property of their respective authors and publishers. Cowrie does not claim ownership of externally published works.
7. Payment Terms
All fees are stated and charged in Malaysian Ringgit (RM). Pricing is as follows:
- Curated Reading Circle: RM 460 per month, billed monthly in advance;
- Resource Library Membership: RM 1,380 per year, billed annually in advance;
- Deep-Read Literacy Programme: RM 3,950 per programme, payable upon enrolment or as agreed in writing.
Cowrie accepts payment via methods communicated at the time of enrolment. Fees are non-refundable except where stated below or required by applicable Malaysian consumer law.
If a session is cancelled by Cowrie, participants will receive either a replacement session or a pro-rata credit at our discretion.
8. Cancellation and Refunds
We understand that circumstances change. Our cancellation terms are as follows:
- Curated Reading Circle: You may cancel your monthly subscription with at least 7 days' written notice before the next billing date. No partial-month refunds are issued.
- Resource Library Membership: Cancellations within 14 days of purchase, where no materials have been accessed, may be eligible for a refund at our discretion. After this period, memberships are non-refundable.
- Deep-Read Literacy Programme: Cancellations more than 14 days before the programme start date will receive a refund less an administrative fee of RM 200. Cancellations within 14 days of the start date, or after the programme has commenced, are not eligible for refunds.

9. Disclaimers
Cowrie is a general reading and education community. Please note the following:
- Nothing shared in our programmes, materials, or community discussions constitutes financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, or any other form of regulated professional service;
- We do not hold any licence to provide financial planning, investment management, or related regulated activities;
- Reading and discussing materials about money literacy does not replace consultation with a qualified financial, legal, or tax professional;
- Our Services are provided "as available" and we do not warrant that the website or community platforms will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Malaysian law, Cowrie's liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms or our Services is limited to the total fees you paid to us in the three months preceding the claim.
We are not liable for:
- Indirect, consequential, or incidental loss or damage;
- Financial decisions made based on reading or discussion materials encountered through Cowrie;
- Loss of data or access caused by technical failures outside our reasonable control;
- Matters beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, telecommunications failures, or government actions.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Cowrie, its facilitators, and staff from any claims, losses, damages, or costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of our Services, or any content you contribute to community discussion spaces.
12. Termination
Either party may end the service relationship:
- By you: by giving written notice as described in Section 8 (Cancellation and Refunds);
- By us: immediately, where you have materially breached these Terms; or with 30 days' written notice for any other reason.
On termination, your licence to access Cowrie Content ends. Sections relating to intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law survive termination.
13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia.
In the event of a dispute, we encourage you to contact us first so that we can attempt to resolve the matter informally. Please write to [email protected] describing the issue in detail.
If informal resolution is not possible, both parties agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia, with any proceedings to be conducted in Ipoh, Perak, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
14. General Provisions
- Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Cowrie regarding use of our Services.
- Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
- Waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of our right to do so in the future.
- Assignment: You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may transfer our rights to a successor entity.
- Notices: Formal notices to Cowrie should be sent in writing to our address below or by email to [email protected].
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our Services or applicable law. When changes are material, we will notify active members by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The updated Terms will always be published on this page with a revised date. Continuing to use our Services after the effective date of any change constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
