Is There a Reading Circle for You?

Whether you are new to thinking about personal finance or looking for a structured programme, there is a place for you at Cowrie. Reach out and we will help you find the right fit.

Why Cowrie

Reading with Purpose

We built Cowrie around the idea that the best way to understand money is to read carefully, discuss openly, and reflect honestly — with good company.

Hand-Picked Reading Lists

Every book and article we select is chosen for clarity and relevance — no dense academic texts, no sensational self-help. Just well-regarded reading worth your time.

Guided Discussion

Sessions are led by a prepared facilitator who keeps conversation grounded, inclusive, and moving forward. No one is put on the spot; everyone leaves with something to think about.

A Real Community

Members share notes, ask questions, and keep each other curious between sessions. The relationships formed here often outlast the programmes themselves.

Useful Materials

All programmes come with structured notes, worksheets, and reading companions so you can revisit ideas long after the session ends.

Balanced Perspectives

We draw from a range of well-regarded authors and viewpoints. Our goal is to broaden how you think about money, not to push a single school of thought.

Rooted in Ipoh

We are a local Perak community, not an online platform trying to be everywhere. Sessions are held in person in Ipoh, which keeps the experience warm and human.

Questions & Answers

Common Questions

What kind of books does Cowrie read?
We focus on accessible, well-regarded books and long-form articles about personal finance, budgeting habits, economic thinking, and the psychology of everyday money decisions. We avoid sensational titles and look for writing that rewards careful reading.
Do I need any prior knowledge to join?
None at all. Cowrie is designed for general readers who are curious about everyday money topics. The Curated Reading Circle is a good starting point if you are new, while the Deep-Read Literacy Programme suits those who want a more structured learning journey.
How often do sessions take place?
The Reading Circle meets once a month. The Deep-Read Literacy Programme runs sessions roughly twice a month over several months. Resource Library members access materials at their own pace and can join scheduled community discussions when available.
Are sessions held online or in person?
Sessions are primarily held in person at our Ipoh premises on Jalan Raja Musa Aziz. We believe face-to-face discussion adds depth to reading. Occasional supplementary discussions may be held digitally for convenience; we will communicate this in advance.
What does the certificate of attendance cover?
The certificate for the Deep-Read Literacy Programme documents your attendance and participation in the full programme. It recognises the time and effort you have invested in reading and engaging with the material. It is a record of participation, not a regulated qualification.
How do I pay, and is there a refund policy?
Payment details are shared after enrolment confirmation. We accept bank transfer and common Malaysian e-wallet options. Cancellations made at least seven days before the programme start date are eligible for a full refund. Please see our Terms & Conditions for the full policy.
